How to Calculate Ecommerce Profit
Ecommerce profit is often confused with gross profit xe2x80x94 selling price minus product cost. In reality, packaging, courier, payment fees and returns all take a bite before you see real profit.
The full cost stack
Start with product cost, then add packaging, forward courier, any marketplace or payment fees, and finally weigh in your return rate xe2x80x94 returned orders cost you the product and courier fees already spent, with no revenue to show for it.
A worked example
A Rs. 3,500 order with Rs. 1,500 product cost, Rs. 100 packaging and Rs. 250 courier nets roughly Rs. 1,650 before returns. At a 10% return rate, blended profit drops meaningfully once returns are factored in xe2x80x94 use the Ecommerce Profit Calculator to see the exact number for your own costs.
Why this matters for pricing
Once you know true blended profit per order, you can price and budget for ads with real numbers instead of an optimistic gross-margin estimate.
